Protect Your Best Friends!

We love our little fur babies. We have Ruca, Slug and Kona. Ru is the biggest dog but also the biggest baby. She will go straight to her comfort spots even if we're just watching a movie with a firework scene- straight to bed she goes. This causes us to take extra precautions to comfort and protect them, the biggest one being to always plan to be home on 4th of July evening.

We don't condone popping off in your neighborhoods, but it seems to be inevitable year after year. And sadly, more pets get lost on 4th of July than any other day of the year. We always ask that you respect your neighbors (2 and 4-legged) and avoid lighting loud fireworks in your neighborhoods. We can't assume everyone is a pyrohead!

Here are 7 ways to keep them safe and comfortable!

  1. KEEP YOUR PETS INSIDE! The loud noises and bright flashes of fireworks can cause pets to flee.

  2. Make a safe space. Set them in an area either away from windows or with light-blocking curtains. Include their crate, blankets and extra toys for comfort. We are always sure to leave the tv or some music on to drown out the noise from outside.

  3. Double check that they are securely wearing their collars and ID tags. Micro-chipping is also very important, consider getting one if you haven't already.

  4. Keep food and alcohol out of reach. Even well-behaved pets can act out of character when stressed or frightened, so take extra precautions so that they don't get into anything toxic.

  5. Walk your dog early in the day, as some pets may be too frightened to walk at night. Adding some extra time walking or running can help them relax and sleep better.

  6. Consider adding a CBD supplement to their diet for a few days leading up to the 4th. Many people rave about how CBD has improved their pets' anxiety.

  7. Post holiday safety check! Do a sweep of your home & yard to remove dangerous items such as firecracker debris and other possible hazards.

Let's get ready for a safe and enjoyable 4th of July!
